In October 2021, Mohamad Yusuf (Ucup Baik), Fitriani Dwi Kurniasih (Fitri DK), and Bayu Widodo (BayuWdd) of the Indonesian art collective Taring Padi arrived for a month-long residency at Marketview Arts in downtown York, PA. During their time in York, the three artists lectured, performed music, gave printmaking and wayang kardus (cardboard puppet) workshops, created new work, and installed large exhibitions at Marketview Arts in downtown York and the York College Galleries on campus. This video, shot and edited by Greg Timmons of Diemo Productions with assistance from Maxel De Jesus, documents the exhibitions and some of the activities. Taring Padi’s exhibitions in York were written about in a major cover feature of Art Asia Pacific magazine by art critic and historian Kerstin Winking. Following the exhibition, the work was shipped directly from York, PA to Kassel, Germany where it was featured prominently in Documenta Fifteen. Held every five years and running for 100 days, Documenta is the world’s most prestigious art exhibition and this year collaborative works made by Taring Padi and York College students were exhibited in multiple locations.
